  • Prima Paintables Paper

Looking for a new way to add just the colors you need for your printed paper? Try Prima's Paintables Papers. These papers come with Black and white "coloring book style" designs and it's up to you to create the look you want. Add as much or as little color as you need using paint, colored pencils, markers or any medium you would like. Make it three dimensional by adding rhinestones, layering paper, adding flowers and more! Add some glitter or sheen using Stickles or Smooch Ink. The possibilities are endless! Here are some samples of how I decorated these Paintables Papers. Prima Paintables are available in Scrapbooks N Smiles webstore in a variety of styles.

  • Tips for using Transparency Accents from My Little Shoebox

Transparency Tutorial--"on the wings of love" from My Little Shoebox

"On the Wings of Love" by Pattie Beltran
    How to project: TRANSPARENCY
Transparency's are an awesome way to enliven your pages!
Pattie created a fun page highlighting the versitility of transparency's.

Cut out the pieces that you are going to use. You can adhere them with all kinds of adhesives including:

liquid, pop dots, and tape runners.
Pattie wanted to add some pizzaz to the button so she adhered the flower transparency.
After she adhered her pieces, she added stickles to give it some shimmer.
This is an example of what it looks like.
Here's another fun way to layer. She cut around the pieces and added pop dots in certain areas. This creates dimension with out bulk.

Another way to highlight your transparency is to paint beneath them.
Use your liquid adhesive to adhere your transparency.
The paint really highlights the overlay.
add some oomph to your chipboard by layering transparency's over them.
    Here's the finished project!
We hope you found this helpful. .

I like adhering these transparency accents with the Vellum Glue dots. They look really nice when you add bling and stickles to them. Have Fun!

  • Tips for Photographing your Holiday Memories

Happy Holidays! Time to deck your halls! If your Christmas tree, decorations and lights are up it's time to take pictures! But sometimes it's tricky to get the effects you'd like when photographing your holiday decorations. I came across this great article with tips and tricks for capturing your holiday memories in the perfect light.

I usually get at least one new ornament a year whether I get one as a gift or purchase one myself.  Each year, I like to take pictures of my new ornaments so I can look back at my scrapbook pages and remember what year I had gotten that ornament. It's a nice way to record their history especially if you'll be making them into family heirlooms and passing them down to your family members later on.

Wishing you and your family wonderful holiday memories!
    Happy Scrappin! Melinda

  • Father's Day

Don't forget June 17 is Father's Day. Make something Special for the DAD in your life. Whether it's your Dear Old Dad, Grandpa or your husband. Create something Special for him to show how much you care.

    • Make a handmade card with reasons why he means so much.
    • Gather your favorite photos of him and create a mini album.
    • Don't have any current photos - you still have time to take some!
    • Take your favorite family photo and decorate a plain frame with scrapbook embellishments for his desk.
    • Package his favorite snack & a movie with a cute handmade tag to tell him it's his day to relax!
  • 7 Summer Scrapbooking Tips

Summer is here and that means vacation, the sun, the water and the beach! Here are just a few hints and tips to capture those summer memories.
    1. Keep a journal on your vacation and write down places you see, memorable moments along with ticket stubs, post cards and memorabilia. Take along an envelope or Ziploc bag to keep your keepsakes all together. You’d be surprised how much you forget when you finally sit down to scrapbook your vacation.

    2. If you are worried about ruining your good camera on the beach or in the water. Buy a disposable waterproof camera so you don’t miss those fun water and beach shots. Underwater shots are always fun too! When you get the pictures developed have them copied onto disk so you can load them on your computer if you want to digitally edit them or email them to friends.

    3. When taking photos on a sunny day. The sun should be directly overhead to reduce shadows in your pictures. Play around with settings on your camera especially if you are shooting with a digital camera. Add flash even if your auto setting does not use it, it can brighten up the dark shadows cast on your subject.

    4. Bring a back up memory card(s) for your digital camera on vacation. You don’t want to have to delete photos in a hurry just to have room to take more photos. Better to take more photos then not enough – you can always delete them later.

    5. Go on vacation with friends? Instead of just making doubles of photos for them, create a mini scrapbook using the photos and add special personal touches. Your friends will enjoy looking back at your vacation together. CD blanks make nice mini albums and you can include a disk of photos for them in the pocket. (see idea gallery for CD blank ideas. CD blanks are for sale in our store)

    6. At the Beach? Write your names, where you are and/or the year in the sand and photograph it. It makes a fun title for one of your scrapbook pages or a great title page for your vacation album.

    7. My last tip for you – Have fun! Time on vacation flies by and before you know it your back home and back to work. Whether you travel over the summer or just enjoy some family time at home – Enjoy it! That’s the fun thing about scrapbooking you get to relive the fun you had on your vacation when you scrapbook your memories.

    Happy Scrappin’  Melinda!
